    This position is for a male applicant.

    The Inside Coordinator of the Horizon Community will have the responsibility for the day- to- day activities undertaken by the residents housed in the designated housing unit.

    The Horizon Coordinator will work with the institutional staff, chaplaincy, and Executive Director. Inside the prison, the coordinator will be directly responsible to a three person management team which includes 1) the warden or his/her designee; 2) a Chaplaincy Services designee; and 3) a person designated by the program provider. Decisions of the management team shall be by unanimous consent.

    Duties of the inside coordinator will include, but not be limited to:

    -Screen applicants and recommend participants for the program.

    -Make recommendations for removal of participants from the program.

    -Recommend sanctions of participants for violations of program standards.

    -Make recommendations for appointment and removal of participants as encouragers and for other positions of responsibility.

    -Supervise the men in the unit, influencing them to full participation.

    -One-on-one counseling of individual participants.

    -Help identify and develop programs to meet the various needs of the participant community. Basic program elements are stipulated by the program provider.

    -Lead or supervise group meetings of the community, encouraging them to develop leadership and interpersonal skills.

    -Schedule and facilitate program presentations.

    -Recruit volunteers and assure that volunteers who come into the prison to present programs to do so in a professional manner acceptable to the institution.

    -Work with the professional staff of the prison to help evaluate emotional, educational and behavioral progress of the participants, or lack thereof.

    -Work with the security personnel of the prison to help insure the safety of all concerned.

    APPLICANT PROFILE

    This position is for a male applicant. It is a full time position consisting of 36 hours a week at $23 an hour, a maximum of 156 hours per month. The annual salary is $43,056, with $3,588 monthly. The applicant must be an active self-starter who can adjust to unusual schedules. Some of the programs that require the Coordinator’s direct participation or supervision could be held in the evening hours. Also: The successful applicant need not have any particular degree but any and all educational experience will be considered in the light of the position. Preferred areas of educational study are in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or Psychology.

    Experience in dependency programs will be helpful for the successful applicant. Small group work experience is required.

    Applicant must be willing to learn Non-Violent Communications, Restorative Justice, and Conscious Discipline practices.

    Applicant must have good inter-personal skills and be able to effectively interface with the administration and staff of the prison as well as the resident participants in the program.
